UN Official Commends Kuwait for Hosting Anti-Terrorism Conference.

KUWAIT CITY: UN Undersecretary General for Counterterrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov expressed on Tuesday his appreciation to Kuwait for hosting the High-Level Conference on "Strengthening International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation and Building Agile Border Security Mechanisms - The Kuwait Phase of the Dushanbe Process". According to Kuwait News Agency, Voronkov highlighted the significance of the event during an interview with KUNA and the Kuwait TV News Channel, stating, "It was a big, big positive feeling that a big number of member states decided to participate in this conference. The invitation was sent to 115 countries. Some 92 of them decided to participate." He emphasized the continued prioritization of counterterrorism on national agendas and acknowledged the ongoing threat of terrorism. Voronkov noted that the United Nations member states are seeking better, more unified efforts in combating terrorism. He further pointed out the timeliness of the conference, which aimed to provide substantive ans wers to challenging questions. The discussions were described as intensive and result-oriented, leading to clear outcomes. "We have a new declaration on Dushanbe process Kuwait phase, and this declaration is a composition of a very practical engagement to be taken together with the State of Kuwait in the next period of time," Voronkov stated. He also mentioned that an upcoming task of the conference in New York would be to assess the progress in implementing effective counterterrorism measures. Voronkov expressed confidence in the collaborative efforts with member states, indicating that the numbers demonstrate the right track in addressing terrorism. Despite global challenges affecting international relations, he assured that there remains a strong will to cooperate in counterterrorism efforts. Regarding Kuwait, Voronkov expressed admiration for the country's rapid development and its significant role in international relations both regionally and globally. He remarked on Kuwait's diplomatic achievements, calling the outcomes of the country's diplomatic activities "perfect" and praised the conference as a testament to this success.
