New york: Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson of the UN Secretary-General, decried Israel's new plans for settlement constructions in the occupied Palestinian West Bank as detrimental to the two-state solution. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Dujarric stated, "Our position on settlements is clear. The Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the regime that's associated with these settlements go against international law."
According to Kuwait News Agency, Dujarric emphasized that the settlements further entrench the occupation and distance the prospect of a two-state solution. He urged the Israeli government to halt the advancement of the settlement process, warning that if it proceeds, it would sever the northern and southern West Banks.
Dujarric noted the consensus among various stakeholders, including the Israeli finance minister and Palestinian organizations, on the potential impact of the settlements. He remarked that this expansion could ultimately end the prospects of a two-state solution, highlighting the urgency of reversing the current course of action.
