El fasher: The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, on Friday strongly condemned the continued killing and wounding of civilians in El Fasher.
According to Kuwait News Agency, reports indicated that at least 53 civilians were killed and more than 60 injured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) between October 5 and 8. In a statement issued in Geneva, Turk urged all parties involved in the conflict to draw lessons from this week's conviction of Ali Kushayb by the International Criminal Court for the war crimes and crimes against humanity he committed in Darfur.
Turk reiterated his call for UN Member States with direct influence to take urgent measures to protect civilians and prevent further atrocities in El Fasher and across Darfur. He expressed his strong condemnation of the Rapid Support Forces' ongoing actions.
"Disregard for civilian life despite repeated calls to protect civilians, RSF continues to kill, injure, displace, and attack civilian objects including shelters, hospitals, and mosques with total disregard for international law," he added.
