Geneva: The head of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation and Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, affirmed on Wednesday that "there is tangible progress" in the latest round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia. The talks witnessed "intensive and substantive work."
According to Kuwait News Agency, Umerov emphasized during a press conference following the Geneva talks that the negotiation process "does not stop and must continue." He stressed that "the ultimate goal of Ukraine in achieving a just and sustainable peace has not changed." The discussions involved both political and military blocs to address security parameters and mechanisms for implementing potential solutions. Umerov noted that "some issues were clarified while additional coordination is ongoing in other cases." The next stage, he added, aims to achieve the necessary level of coordination to submit the developed decisions for consideration by the presidents.
Umerov further highlighted the focus on formulating the key provisions necessary to finalize the process, stating that "this is complex work that requires the agreement of all parties and time." While confirming progress, he mentioned that it is "without details." The closed-door talks, which took place under Swiss mediation in Geneva on Tuesday and Wednesday, included delegations from the three countries, alongside advisers from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
This round follows a US-initiated initiative amid the intensification of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
