London: The United Kingdom's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced its intention to sign the Atlantic Partnership for Advanced Nuclear Energy, a new agreement designed to accelerate the construction of nuclear power plants in both the UK and the United States. According to Kuwait News Agency, the agreement will enable faster business deals between American and British companies and is expected to be signed during US President Donald Trump's upcoming state visit to the UK this week. The ministry added that the partnership aims to strengthen commercial ties between British and American firms, with the broader program potentially worth up to USD 54.4 billion, including USD 16.3 billion allocated for northeast England. The expansion of nuclear power generation is anticipated to reduce household energy bills, create jobs, enhance energy security, and address climate change. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hailed the initiative as a historic nuclear partnership that would not only power homes but also support the British economy, communities, and national ambitions. UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, echoed this sentiment, stating that Britain is embarking on a golden age of nuclear energy alongside the US to advance new nuclear technologies and secure future capabilities. He emphasized that nuclear energy delivers clean power while boosting private-sector growth and creating quality employment. US Secretary for the US Department of Energy, Chris Wright, expressed that Washington looks forward to a nuclear renaissance, highlighting the essential role of commercial nuclear power in meeting rising energy demand and fueling the artificial intelligence revolution. He added that this endeavor requires strong partnerships with global allies and close collaboration with the private sector.
