UK Signs GBP 205 Million Contract to Enhance RAF Typhoon Fleet

London: The United Kingdom has entered into a GBP 205 million (approximately USD 274 million) contract with the British industry to bolster its Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighters, aiming to strengthen support for NATO allies.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Ministry of Defense announced that the contract has been awarded to QinetiQ, a British company, highlighting the ministry's focus on advancing national defense capabilities. Luke Pollard, the UK's Minister of State for Defense Readiness and Industry, emphasized the significance of the investment, stating that the continued funding for the Typhoon program and last year's GBP 8 billion (USD 11 billion) Typhoon export deal with Turkiye demonstrate the role of defense as a driver for economic growth across the nation.

Steve Wadey, CEO of QinetiQ, remarked that the contract reflects the company's dedication to the government's defense as an engine for growth agenda. He noted that the collaboration with the Ministry of Defence is focused on investing in advanced technology to enhance productivity and expertise. In related developments, the Royal Navy recently announced the successful maiden flight of its full-sized autonomous helicopter, designed for tracking submarines and conducting high-risk missions.

These developments in the UK occur amid ongoing tensions in the North Atlantic region, with concerns regarding a potential threat from Russia.
