UK Expands Use of Facial Recognition Cameras to Combat Crime

London: The British Home Office has announced an expansion in the use of facial recognition cameras as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle crime. The initiative, declared on Wednesday, involves deploying additional resources across several police forces in England.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Home Office detailed that 10 vans equipped with facial recognition cameras will be introduced in seven police forces. These mobile units will operate in public areas, enabling authorities to efficiently identify suspects and enhance public safety measures.

The use of facial recognition technology has been active in London since 2017, resulting in the detention of 580 criminals in the past year alone. This expansion is a segment of a broader strategy to address the rising crime rates, which also includes the plan to train approximately 13,000 new police officers over the next four years, as clarified by the Home Office.
