London: Foreign ministers of Canada, Norway, and the United Kingdom have expressed concern regarding the post-election violence in Tanzania. "We are concerned by the situation in Tanzania following the national elections of 28 and 29 October," the foreign ministers stated in a joint communication. They highlighted credible reports indicating numerous fatalities and injuries resulting from the security response to protests that commenced on 29 October. The ministers have urged Tanzanian authorities to exercise maximum restraint and to respect the rights of assembly and freedom of expression. According to Kuwait News Agency, the ministers also expressed apprehension about the pre-election period, which was characterized by harassment, abductions, and intimidation targeted at opposition figures, journalists, and civil society members. They called upon Tanzanian authorities to honor their international commitments, emphasizing the need for all citizens to participate freely and safely in public life.
