UK and EU Discuss Progress on Withdrawal Agreement Implementation

London: The United Kingdom (UK) and European Union (EU) held a meeting of the Withdrawal Agreement Joint Committee in London on Tuesday. The Joint Committee co-chairs reviewed the progress on implementing the Withdrawal Agreement since their last meeting on May 16, 2024, emphasizing their commitment to the agreement's full and timely execution in all aspects.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the co-chairs reaffirmed the importance of citizens' rights, noting it as a key priority. They stressed the need for a seamless transition for citizens from temporary to permanent residence over the next two years. The discussions also included the significance of the Windsor Framework, aiming to benefit the people and businesses in Northern Ireland while maintaining a soft border on the island of Ireland. The framework is crucial for protecting the EU Single Market, which Northern Ireland uniquely accesses, and ensuring the integrity of the UK's Internal Market.

The co-chairs expressed their intention to continue working with mutual trust and remain in close communication to achieve the Withdrawal Agreement's full implementation. They also discussed strengthening bilateral relations ahead of the UK-EU Summit scheduled for May 19, 2025.
