Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new executive order aimed at reducing medicine prices across the nation. The order, known as "most favored nations drug pricing," was signed as part of an initiative to align U.S. drug prices with those of other developed countries.
According to Kuwait News Agency, President Trump stated that the new policy would ensure Americans pay the lowest price available for prescription drugs, similar to prices found internationally. He emphasized that some pharmaceutical prices could see reductions of 50 to 90 percent almost immediately.
Trump declared that the United States would cease subsidizing the healthcare systems of other countries by overpaying for medications. He criticized the current system where Americans pay significantly more for the same drugs compared to other nations, reiterating a call for an end to "profiteering and price gouging from Big Pharma."
