Hanoi: Typhoon Kalmaegi has claimed the lives of at least five people in Vietnam after it struck the nation's coastal regions, as reported by Vietnamese authorities. The powerful storm made landfall in central Vietnam on Thursday evening, causing significant damage to infrastructure, including buildings, light poles, and trees. The aftermath left approximately 3.1 million people without power, according to a press release from the country's emergency agency.
According to Kuwait News Agency, more than 537,000 residents have been evacuated from the affected areas, with over 268,000 soldiers deployed to conduct search and rescue operations. These efforts are part of a coordinated response to mitigate the storm's impact on the local population and infrastructure.
Earlier in the week, Kalmaegi wreaked havoc in the central Philippines, resulting in the deaths of at least 188 people and injuring 135 others, marking one of the year's most devastating natural disasters in the region.
