Two ISIS Operatives Killed in US-Backed Military Operations

Baghdad: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces supported partner forces in operations last week as part of the ongoing campaign against the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS or Daesh).

According to Kuwait News Agency, CENTCOM reported that six operations were conducted-five in Iraq and one in Syria-as part of the Defeat ISIS (D-ISIS) campaign. These operations resulted in the deaths of two ISIS operatives, the detention of two others, including an ISIS leader, and the recovery of multiple weapons. The operations aimed to disrupt and degrade ISIS' capacity to reconstitute, plan, organize, and conduct attacks against civilians and U.S. and partner forces in the region.

From May 21-22, Syrian Democratic Forces, with support from USCENTCOM, conducted a D-ISIS operation near Deir ez-Zur, which successfully led to the capture of an ISIS operative. Additionally, from May 21-27, Iraqi forces, also enabled by CENTCOM, carried out D-ISIS operations in northern Iraq, specifically within the Salah al-Din Governorate, Kirkuk Governorate, and Al-Fallujah. These operations resulted in the clearance and destruction of multiple locations, confiscation of small arms weapons and munitions, recovery of material for further exploitation, two ISIS operatives killed in action, and the capture of an ISIS leader.

The United States and members of the multinational Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) continue their commitment to combating ISIS. "Operations like these underscore the commitment of USCENTCOM, along with our allies and partners, to the enduring defeat of ISIS in the region," stated Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, USCENTCOM Commander.
