Irbil: The security services in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq reported on Thursday evening that they successfully intercepted and shot down two hostile drones targeting the airports in Irbil and Kirkuk.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the two bomb-laden drones were neutralized near both airports almost at the same time, preventing any potential damage or casualties. Kurdistan’s directorate general of counter-terrorism released a statement confirming the incident and the successful interception of the drones.
Earlier in the day, there was another incident involving a hostile drone, which fell in Sulaymaniyah governorate, located in northeast Iraq. The security forces are investigating whether the incidents are connected and continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further threats.
