Beirut: Twenty-two people from southern Lebanon were killed and 124 injured by Israeli occupation fire, Lebanese Emergency Operations Center said Sunday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Emergency Center released a statement, quoted by the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), indicating that the attacks by Israeli forces occurred during the attempted return of Lebanese citizens to their towns. The updated toll reported 22 dead and 124 injured, with the wounded being transferred to nearby hospitals.
The United Nations and its peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) had earlier warned the residents of southern Lebanon's towns against returning home, citing the situation along the Blue Line border as "not yet ready for a safe return."
Last night, the Lebanese Army Command urged residents to delay heading towards the southern border areas.
Earlier, Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati appealed to all countries that sponsored the ceasefire agreement with Israeli occupation to uphold their responsibilities and halt the aggression.
