Turkish Foreign Minister Calls for United Islamic Support for Palestinian Rights

Jeddah: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday urged Islamic nations to be united in support of Palestinian rights, saying it was imperative to ramp up pressure on Israel in a bid to resolve the Middle East conflict.

According to Kuwait News Agency, such a measure was necessary as part of efforts to back Palestinian rights and put in place a stringent ceasefire that halts the Israeli violence. The Turkish top diplomat addressed a gathering with his counterparts from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia's Red Sea city of Jeddah.

He criticized Israeli Occupation forces for acts against the Palestinians, stating that more than half a million Palestinians across the Gaza Strip were facing widespread starvation. The Turkish foreign minister accused Israel of aiming to eradicate the Palestinians, emphasizing that international recognition of an independent Palestinian state was essential.

Turkiye is leading extraordinary talks that bring together the foreign ministers of OIC member states, aiming to garner support for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
