Ankara: Trkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Kuwaiti counterpart Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah have engaged in discussions about the latest regional situation during a phone call, Turkish diplomatic sources confirmed.
According to TRTworld.com, no additional details regarding the phone call that took place on Monday were disclosed. The conversation comes amidst rising tensions in the region following recent incidents involving Iranian drones in Kuwaiti airspace.
On Saturday, Kuwait reported that its military forces intercepted and destroyed Iranian drones which had targeted a government facility and civilian vehicles on Bubiyan Island. The attacks resulted in material damage but did not cause any casualties, as confirmed by Defence Ministry spokesperson Saud Al-Atwan. Al-Atwan indicated that the Iranian drones had been detected early Saturday and were subsequently neutralized by Kuwaiti armed forces.
He further elaborated that the aggression was aimed at several critical sites, including a government facility in northern Kuwait and vehicles of a civilian company on Bubiyan Island. The attacks have heightened regional tensions, which have been simmering since February when the US and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran. Tehran's response included missile and drone strikes targeting Gulf nations that host US military assets.
Meanwhile, Pakistani government sources informed Anadolu that no specific date or venue has been set for the resumption of long-stalled direct talks between the US and Iran, aimed at resolving their ongoing conflict. US President Donald Trump had earlier indicated that renewed negotiations with Tehran were slated to begin on Monday afternoon, following his decision to postpone military strikes on Iran. However, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated on Monday that Tehran was not currently engaged in any talks with Washington.
