Tunisia and Algeria Sign 25 Accords to Enhance Cooperation in Multiple Sectors

Tunis: Tunisia and Algeria have signed a total of 25 accords aimed at boosting cooperation across several sectors, including energy, as per a statement from the Tunisian premiership. The agreements, which were finalized on Friday under the supervision of Tunisian Prime Minister Sarra Senzeri and Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, encompass a range of fields such as diplomacy, economics, labor, education, health, culture, and media.

According to Kuwait News Agency, these agreements were formulated during the 23rd session of the joint commission, a meeting that Ghrieb emphasized was crucial for addressing security challenges, particularly the securing of joint borders. He noted that Algeria's energy exports play a vital role in satisfying domestic demand, highlighting the need for executing planned projects to strengthen the power grid. This grid serves as a critical cross-border interconnection for energy exchange, integrating multiple high-voltage lines between Tunisia and Algeria, and connecting them to the broader European system through Morocco.

Additionally, Ghrieb stressed the importance of creating the right conditions to enhance commercial exchanges and remove barriers to trade. The commercial exchange volume between Tunisia and Algeria is projected to reach USD 2.3 billion in 2024, marking a 12 percent increase compared to the previous year.
