Washington: President Donald Trump affirmed late Monday that the US would target Iranian nuclear facilities with new strikes "if necessary".
According to Kuwait News Agency, Trump's statement was a direct response to remarks made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Araghchi had discussed the extensive damage inflicted on Iran's nuclear facilities during an interview with Fox News, asserting that Iran would persist with its nuclear program despite the setbacks.
Trump's comment, which he posted on Truth Social, emphasized the US's readiness to take further action if required, stating, "Of course they are, just like I said, and we will do it again, if necessary!" This assertion followed Araghchi's acknowledgment of the severe destruction to the facilities, yet his insistence on the continuation of uranium enrichment as a matter of "national pride."
On June 22, President Trump had announced the targeting of three nuclear facilities in Iran, a move that has intensified the ongoing tensions between the two nations regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions.
