Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he will meet with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday to discuss advancing towards a peace agreement following his recent discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. According to Kuwait News Agency, President Trump expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of these diplomatic efforts. He shared on his Truth Social platform that if discussions with President Zelenskyy go well, a subsequent meeting with President Putin could be scheduled. Trump highlighted the success of his talks with Putin and a late-night phone call with Zelenskyy, as well as consultations with European leaders and the NATO Secretary General. Trump emphasized the collective agreement that a direct Peace Agreement would be more effective than a Ceasefire Agreement in ending the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He noted that the responsibility now lies with President Zelenskyy to leverage the results of the Alaska Summit to secure a lasting peace deal with Russia. While Trump mentioned various points of agreement with President Putin, he did not disclose specific details. Both leaders had previously described their talks on Ukraine as productive and constructive, although no concrete agreement was reached to conclude the three-year war.
