Trump Signs Act to Halt Fentanyl, Dealing “Righteous Blow” to Drug Smugglers

Washington: US President Donald J. Trump signed the HALT Fentanyl Act on Wednesday, marking a significant move against drug smugglers, criminals, and cartels. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump accused former President Joe Biden of allowing foreign drug cartels to establish a stronghold on American soil. He emphasized that from the beginning of his administration, there has been an ongoing battle against dealers, smugglers, and cartels.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Trump declared the signing of the HALT Fentanyl Act as a historic step towards justice for families affected by the fentanyl crisis. The legislation aims to tackle the issues related to drug dealers, narcotic traffickers, and criminal cartels by enacting stricter regulations.

The Congress, in a press release, stated that the bill permanently classifies fentanyl-related substances under schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. This classification indicates that these substances have a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use, subjecting them to stringent regulatory controls and penalties.

Furthermore, the bill stipulates that offenses involving fentanyl-related substances will be subject to the same quantity thresholds and penalties as those involving fentanyl analogues, ensuring a consistent legal framework for tackling fentanyl-related crimes.
