Trump Named Time Magazine Personality of the Year

NEW YORK: The mass circulation Time Magazine has designated U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as its Personality of the Year, citing his role in a historic political comeback, a significant realignment of American politics, and reshaping the presidency and America's global stance. According to Kuwait News Agency, the magazine stated that Trump was chosen "For marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America's role in the world, Donald Trump is Time's 2024 Person of the Year." In celebration of this recognition, President-elect Trump rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York on Thursday. Commenting on the occasion, Trump remarked, "It is an honor. And this is a double, because usually they don't coordinate the man of the year or the Person of the Year with the ringing of the bell. And brilliantly, you've picked them both at the same time. It takes one trip." This se lection was widely anticipated, as Time Magazine has a tradition of awarding the honor to the winner of the presidential election in every race since George W. Bush in 2000. Trump previously received the title in 2016 following his initial election victory. In contrast, last year, the magazine chose megastar Taylor Swift as its Person of the Year.
