Washington: US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday to impose 25 percent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports to the United States, "without exceptions or exemptions." During the signing at the White House, Trump stated, "This is a big deal, the beginning of making America rich again."
According to Kuwait News Agency, early February saw the launch of Trump's White House RapidResponse47 account on X, which announced that Trump had signed tariffs on steel producers "unless they make their product in the United States." The post added, "It's time for our great industries to come back to America."
Steel is an essential component in industries ranging from automobiles and household appliances to major infrastructure, whereas aluminum is important for manufacturing metal food and beverages. The United States consumes tens of millions of steel and aluminum annually, and the tariffs could raise production costs for many of these goods due to higher prices for both imported and domestic materials. Aluminum manufacturers could also increase prices due to reduced competition from cheap imports.
