Top Yemeni leader lauds GCC’s support

President of the Yemeni leadership council Rashad Al-Alaimy on Thursday lauded the GCC states’ support for the council and the legitimate government of Yemen.

The government-run news agency Saba’ reported that Al-Alaimy was speaking during a reception of the GCC Secretary General Jassem Al-Bedwaidi at the presidential palace in Aden.

Al-Alaimy expressed deep gratitude to the GCC support for the Yemeni people and their constitutional legitimacy and the GCC countries’ effective role in facing dangers threatening the entity and identity of Yemen, particularly after the coup that was carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militias.

He welcomed the current visit by the GCC chief to the temporary capital, Aden, and spoke about the mediation efforts by Saudi Arabia “to renew the truce and capitalize on it to launch the comprehensive political process.” Vis a vis these efforts, however, the Houthi militias have been carrying out recurring breaches and explicitly collaborating with terrorist organizations, he added.

For his part, Al-Bedaiwi re-affirmed the GCC stance in support of the UN efforts to re-establish peace in Yemen on the basis of the three references; the GCC initiative, outcome of the national dialogue and the Security Council resolution 2216.
