Tokyo stocks’ broader Topix index hits 33-year high on Wall Street gains

Tokyo stocks climbed Tuesday, with their broader index ending at a 33-year, on overnight gains on Wall Street.

The Tokyo Stock Price Index, which includes all shares of the First Section on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, rose 12.33 points, or 0.58 percent, from Monday to 2,127.18, its highest finish since August 1990.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average also gained 216.65 points, or 0.73 percent, to 29,842.99, closing at the highest level since September 2021.

Investor sentiment was boosted as major US benchmarks finished higher on Monday, including the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq Composite.
