Thousands of Israeli Settlers Storm Jerusalem’s Old City Amid Tensions

Jerusalem: Thousands of extremist Israeli settlers stormed the Old City of Jerusalem on Monday during the annual Flag March organized by authorities to commemorate the Israeli occupation of the city in 1967, amid widespread tension and tight security measures.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Palestinian Al-Quds governorate's Media department stated in a press release that the march began in the city center and proceeded towards the Old City. During the event, extremists allegedly attacked several residents and chanted racist slogans against Arabs and Palestinians.

The march saw participation from several Israeli government ministers, including National Security Minister Ben Gvir, and members of the Knesset. The procession concluded at the Western Wall, located to the west of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

During the march, occupation forces arrested journalist Tharwat Shaqra and her brother Mohammed Shaqra while they were covering the event. The siblings were subsequently taken to an interrogation center in the city.

To manage the situation, occupation forces bolstered their presence in Jerusalem and the Old City by deploying hundreds of troops, erecting iron barriers, restricting the movement of Palestinians, and compelling shopkeepers to close their establishments.
