The President of the Republic welcomes the idea of establishing an Italian university in Baghdad

Baghdad: President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid welcomed the idea of establishing an Italian university in Baghdad, stressing the need for cooperation and coordination with the Italian side in the field of archaeological missions and excavation operations.

A statement by the Presidency of the Republic stated that “President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received, today, Monday, at the Baghdad Palace, the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Griganti, accompanied by Italian Parliament Member Mauro Del Barba.”

At the beginning of the meeting, according to the statement, the President of the Republic praised the strong relations that bring together Iraq and Italy in many political, economic, cultural and environmental fields, noting the importance of working to strengthen and develop them.

He stated: “The two countries have a great cultural and historical heritage,” stressing, in this regard, the need for cooperation and coordination in the field of archaeological missions and excavatio
n operations.

The President also praised the role of Italian companies operating in Iraq, past and present, stressing the need to strengthen their presence in the country.

President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid welcomed the idea of the Italian government to establish an Italian university in Baghdad in the fields of architecture and civil engineering, indicating the importance of preparing engineers and qualifying their own capabilities as well as their scientific skills.

For his part, Ambassador Greganti appreciated the invitation of the President of the Republic to his Italian counterpart to visit Iraq, noting that work is underway to arrange the visit during the coming period, stressing Italy’s support for the security and stability of Iraq and the aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations to achieve common interests.
