The Ministry of Planning discusses with the European Union the impact of climate change on the most affected areas

The Ministry of Planning discussed today, Wednesday, with the representative of the European Union the impact of climate change in Iraq and its repercussions on vulnerable groups in society.

The Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Maher Hammad Johan, said, according to a statement by the Ministry: The meeting came to discuss the climate change project in Iraq, which is funded by the European Union with an amount of more than (26) million euros, adding, “The project targets the governorates (Basra, Anbar, Nineveh and Sulaymaniyah) in several regions in fields, especially water, agriculture and the provision of services, especially to the areas most affected by climatic changes and drought, to contribute to the stability of the population of those areas.

The Undersecretary stressed the need to cooperate with other government ministries, such as the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Education, to include in the school curricula environmental guidance for water, as well as raising students interested in climate change, preserving the environment and better utilization, rationalizing water and others in order to preserve the environment.
