The Ministry Of Environment Agrees With The World Bank To Implement Important Projects And Green Investment

The Ministry of Environment announced the agreement with the World Bank team to support the government in important projects and green investment.

A statement by the ministry stated: The projects are related to the treatment of polluted sites, solid waste treatment techniques, modern agriculture, energy sustainability and green investment methods.

Minister of Environment Nizar Amidi, during receiving the delegation of the World Bank team headed by Richard Abu Al-Nour, Director of the World Bank office in Iraq, and technical advisors for the environment and climate Dalia Lutfi and Ahmed Ali / according to a statement by the Ministry /, he stressed the priority of supporting environmental projects, and Iraq’s need for the support of the World Bank in this current stage, especially to reduce the effects of climate change and its repercussions on the country.

During the meeting, environmental projects and programs implemented in all governorates were discussed, including the treatment of a number of polluted sites in 7 Iraqi governorates after their evaluation.

The minister pointed out: The government has put environmental projects and remedies such as desertification, agriculture, renewable energies, rational water management and associated gas investment at the forefront of its programs because they are among the important treatments in improving the environmental reality and facing the negative effects of climate change.

He continued: Doubling the bridges of cooperation with international organizations, in addition to involving the private sector and public and private institutions for the purpose of implementing projects and programs, contributes to mitigating these effects.

For their part, representatives of the World Bank delegation expressed their willingness to support and finance projects and environmental and awareness activities that contribute to mitigation and adaptation to face environmental challenges and problems of climate change and to transform the programs and projects presented in the World Bank report into projects that serve the environmental sector in Iraq.
