The Pakistani police announced that the number of victims of the explosion that occurred yesterday, Sunday, in the Bajaur region, in the northwest of the country, has risen to 54 dead and about 200 wounded.
The police stated, in a statement today, Monday, that the explosion occurred during a political gathering of the “Jamiyat Ulema al-Islam” party, in which a prominent leader was supposed to deliver a speech, but before his arrival, a bomb exploded, killing 54 people and wounding about 200.
The death toll, which was announced yesterday, reached 40, while 123 others who were gathering in the place were wounded.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the operation, calling on the security forces to “make all necessary efforts to bring those involved to justice.”
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion, but investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances of this incident.”
