Kuwait city: The death toll from the catastrophic flooding that hit six counties in Texas has risen to 81.
According to Kuwait News Agency, in Kerr County, officials reported 75 deaths, including 48 adults and 27 children. The NBC news network highlighted the severity of the situation as slow-moving thunderstorms threaten to bring more rain and the risk of additional flooding to already saturated areas in central Texas. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for San Antonio, Austin, and Kerr County until 7 p.m. local time.
The catastrophic flooding began on Friday, triggered by a surge of 20-26 feet on the Guadalupe River near Kerrville, leading to widespread destruction. In response to the devastation, US President Donald Trump on Sunday signed a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, located to the west of Austin.
Beyond Texas, heavy rains have also resulted in severe flooding in other states, including North Carolina, underscoring the widespread impact of the recent weather events.
