Damascus: The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday that several security personnel were killed and several others were injured in an armed attack by rebel gangs in Sweida province.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the ministry issued a press statement warning that these gangs aim to fuel sectarian tension and spread chaos in the province, motivated by the personal interests of their leaders. The ministry further accused the militants of stealing relief aid, inciting internal conflicts, and conducting illegal arrests of civilians within the province.
The ministry pledged to continue fulfilling its national and humanitarian responsibilities in Sweida, emphasizing its commitment to establishing security and stability. It also stated its intent to protect the population and ensure the security of relief and aid convoys.
The statement highlighted that since the initiation of the ceasefire agreement in Sweida, the Syrian state has been actively working towards consolidating this agreement to restore stability. Efforts have been made across various departments to ensure the safety of civilians and to facilitate the gradual reinstatement of services and normalcy.
However, the ministry noted that these initiatives are being obstructed by ongoing media and sectarian mobilization campaigns led by militants who have persistently violated the ceasefire agreement and targeted security personnel.
