Syrian Government Seeks Turkish Support to Enhance Defense Against Terror Groups

Ankara: The Turkish Defense Ministry has confirmed that the Syrian government has made an official request for support from Turkiye to bolster its defense capabilities and combat terrorist groups, particularly the so-called Islamic State (IS/Daesh).

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Turkish Defense Ministry stated that it is actively working to provide training, consultancy, and technical support to help Syria enhance its defense capacity. "Turkiye's primary goal is to support Syria's political unity and territorial integrity and to lead efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region," the ministry emphasized in its statement.

The request comes amid ongoing clashes in Syria's Suwayda province and intensified attacks by Israeli forces on Damascus. Admiral Zeki Akturk, the ministry's spokesman, noted that the increased aggression by Israeli forces has escalated tensions between the Druze community in southern Suwayda and the Damascus government. He reiterated Turkiye's commitment to preserving Syria's territorial integrity, ensuring stability, and fighting against terrorist organizations.
