Suicide Blast Outside Bank Claims Lives in Northern Afghanistan

Kunduz: At least five people were killed while seven others received injuries in a suicide blast outside a bank in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province on Tuesday, said officials. Police spokesperson for Kunduz province, Jumadin Khaksar, in a statement to media, said that a suicide bomber, who had improvised explosive devices, detonated himself. He further stated that the Kunduz province police command is working with relevant organizations to find the perpetrators of the incident and bring them to justice.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the explosion targeted a queue of people waiting to collect their salaries from the Kabul bank in the city of Kunduz, the provincial capital. The official confirmed that civilians, civil servants, and members of the Taliban security forces were among the five people killed.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the blast that occurred days after the spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Interior, Abdul Mateen Qani, described Afghanistan's security situation as "unprecedented" compared to the past decade. He said, "The Islamic Emirate has absolute control over all the country's territory and does not allow any individual or group to disrupt the country's security. The concerns of some international organizations, institutions, or regional and global countries regarding potential security threats from Afghan soil are baseless and unfounded, and we completely reject them."
