Khartoum: Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris announced on Sunday the return of his government to the capital, Khartoum. "Today, we return, and the Government of Hope returns to the national capital," Idris declared to a gathering in Khartoum after nearly three years of operating from its wartime capital of Port Sudan.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Idris emphasized that his government would prioritize improving living conditions in the country, focusing on healthcare, the reconstruction of hospitals, and the development of educational services. The prime minister described the move as a "message of reassurance to citizens and a sign of government commitment to working from the heart of the capital."
The Sudanese government had been based in the Red Sea city of Port Sudan since the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on April 25, 2023.
