This commitment has been evident through various forms of assistance, including cash, essential supplies, and other necessary materials, which have been distributed by both state institutions and private associations.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait's commitment to humanitarian efforts aligns with the principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly regarding the promotion and protection of human rights. The country has not only participated in international human rights events but has also formed partnerships with UN agencies and NGOs to enhance community welfare and quality of life. In recognition of its efforts, the United Nations honored Kuwait in 2014 with the title "The Center for Humanitarian Action," and the late Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, was designated "The Leader for Humanitarian Action."
Kuwait's leadership has placed a high priority on humanitarian action, making significant contributions to various UN agencies, including the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in May 2024, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah reaffirmed Kuwait's commitment to continuing its humanitarian initiatives globally.
The country, through organizations such as the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) and the Kuwait Fund For Arab Economic Development (KFAED), has provided aid to regions affected by poverty, crises, natural disasters, and epidemics. Notable contributions include urgent aid to Syrian refugees, substantial donations to the UNHCR, and support for displaced peoples in Yemen. Additionally, Kuwait has played a vital role in aiding countries like Italy, Iran, and Palestine through various initiatives and financial contributions.
Despite challenges like the coronavirus pandemic, Kuwait has continued its humanitarian efforts, supporting countries in need of medical and food supplies. These efforts have extended to regions such as Lebanon, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Poland, and Gaza, where Kuwait has provided significant assistance through partnerships and campaigns.
Kuwait has also focused on long-term development projects, signing agreements with international bodies like the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). These agreements aim to expand cooperation in sustainable development ventures and humanitarian aid.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also played a role by launching an electronic network for humanitarian action, emphasizing Kuwait's approach to sustainable humanitarian endeavors.
