Barcelona: Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Albares affirmed Spain's full support for the "Global Sumud Flotilla," which is set to depart from Spain this Sunday with the mission of breaking the blockade on Gaza and delivering much-needed humanitarian aid.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Albares emphasized in an interview with La Vanguardia, a local newspaper, that Europe cannot continue to maintain normal relations with the Israeli occupation while the conflict in Gaza continues. He advocated for the suspension of the EU-Israel trade agreement as a response to the ongoing situation.
Albares further expressed Spain's diplomatic backing for the participants of the flotilla, who are scheduled to embark from Barcelona towards Gaza. He underscored Spain's significant role and leadership within the European Union concerning the crisis in Gaza, efforts towards Middle East peace, and addressing the conflict in Ukraine.
In addition, Albares attributed successful collaboration with African nations, such as Morocco and Mauritania, to a significant reduction in irregular migration to Spain, noting a 30 percent decrease between January and July compared to the previous year.
The Global Sumud Flotilla comprises 20 ships laden with medical and humanitarian supplies, and involves volunteers and notable figures from 44 countries, all united in their mission to support Gaza.
