Istanbul: Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila emphasized the crucial role of families in shaping human identity and societal progress during her speech at the International Family Forum in Istanbul, Turkiye.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Huwaila expressed her appreciation to Turkish Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas for the invitation and highlighted the high-level participation at the forum, underscoring the universal recognition of the family as a cornerstone of society. She noted that both national and international policy frameworks have long prioritized the family, particularly in the face of rapid technological, economic, and social changes.
Al-Huwaila elaborated on Kuwait's initiatives, describing the country's comprehensive approach to family-supportive policies. Since its establishment, Kuwait has prioritized family protection and rights, aligning with Article 9 of its Constitution. She emphasized the need for policies that balance economic, social, and health rights, forming the foundation of Kuwait's national development strategy.
The strategy's first pillar focuses on creating integrated policies across social, educational, health, and housing sectors to ensure family stability. The second pillar enhances financial support for low-income families through social assistance programs and housing allowances. The third pillar ensures accessible health and education services, reaffirming Kuwait's commitment to inclusivity.
Efforts to promote work-life balance, including flexible work hours and remote work options, form the fourth pillar. Legislative empowerment constitutes the fifth pillar, with laws supporting family protection, economic empowerment, and vocational training. The sixth pillar seeks to enhance community engagement through campaigns that promote family values and address stereotypes.
Al-Huwaila also highlighted Kuwait's Supreme Council for Family Affairs, which supports family cohesion and provides specialized services for domestic violence survivors. She called for unified efforts globally to support families in navigating evolving challenges, reinforcing their role in achieving social stability and sustainable development.
