Kuwait city: Slovenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the newly appointed Israeli Ambassador in Ljubljana, Ruth Cohen-Dar, for a demarche regarding the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The ministry aims to communicate its concerns over the severe restrictions on humanitarian aid supplies affecting civilians in the region.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Slovenian government is urging Israel to immediately cease what it describes as a policy of premeditated killing and starvation targeting the civilian population in Gaza. The Ministry highlighted these demands in a statement posted on its X account, emphasizing the need for urgent action.
This diplomatic protest is part of Slovenia's broader efforts to pressure Israeli authorities to fulfill their obligations under International Humanitarian Law. The Slovenian government is calling for measures to alleviate the suffering of Gazans and ensure unhindered and safe access to essential relief supplies.
Last week, Tanja Fajon, Slovenia's Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, strongly condemned the violence and humanitarian crisis affecting Palestinian civilians in Gaza. She addressed the issue during a high-level international conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, urging UN member states to recognize the State of Palestine.
Slovenia officially recognized the State of Palestine in June 2024, marking a significant stance in its foreign policy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
