Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Passes Away at 96

Kuwait city: Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, a prominent figure in Kuwait's history, passed away at the age of 96. He was a key player in the development of Kuwait's governance and education systems. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber served as the Minister of Education in the first government of Kuwait in 1962. His career included significant roles such as head of the courts in 1928, chairman of the Municipality in 1932, and head of the Awqaf Department in 1948. In 1965, he was named special advisor to the Amir of Kuwait, a position he held until his passing.

According to Kuwait News Agency, several landmark agreements and initiatives have marked Kuwait's recent history. In 2001, Kuwait and Japan agreed to conclude exploration concessions granted to the Arabian Oil Company in the divided submerged area, effective January 4, 2003. In 2017, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed a loan agreement with Swaziland worth KD four million (USD 12 million) to support an agricultural irrigation project.

In 2019, Kuwait and the International Atomic Energy Agency entered into a cooperative agreement focused on monitoring and protecting the sea environment, aligning with the 2035 New Kuwait vision. The following year, US President Donald Trump awarded the Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah the Legion of Merit, highlighting his efforts in resolving regional and global disputes.

In recent developments, the Health Assurance Hospitals Company (Dhaman) signed an agreement with Spanish firm Ribera Salud for the operation of Dhaman medical services in 2022. Most recently, in 2023, Kuwaiti candidate Dr. Talal Al-Bathali was elected as Vice President of the World Petroleum Council for the 2023-26 tenure during the council's 24th meeting in Calgary, Canada.
