Peshawar: At least 25 militants attempting to infiltrate through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border were killed, along with five soldiers, during two security operations conducted by Pakistani forces in the northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, according to military reports on Sunday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the security forces detected movements of two large groups of militants in the Ghaki area of the Kurram tribal district and the Spinwam area of the North Waziristan tribal district in KPK. The Pakistan military's media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), released a statement detailing these operations.
Security forces engaged the militant groups, resulting in the deaths of 15 militants, including four suicide bombers, in North Waziristan. Another 10 militants were killed in the Kurram District. ISPR further reported the recovery of a substantial amount of weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the militants. These infiltration attempts occur amidst ongoing talks between delegations from Pakistan and Afghanistan in Turkiye. Pakistan has urged the Interim Afghan Government to manage the border effectively and fulfill its obligations under the Doha Agreement, preventing the use of Afghan soil by militants against Pakistan.
The military emphasized the unwavering commitment of Pakistan's security forces to defend the nation's borders, asserting that the sacrifices of the soldiers reinforce their determination. Last week, Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire during peace talks in Qatar after violent clashes resulted in casualties on both sides.
