Lakki Marwat: At least five militants were killed and two others were injured in a security operation in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, said the military on Wednesday. According to Kuwait News Agency, security forces have killed five militants during an intelligence-based operation in Lakki Marwat district of KPK. It further confirmed that two militants also got injured during the conduct of operation. An operation is being conducted to eliminate any other militants found in the area. "Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe-out the menace of terrorism from the country," the statement concluded. President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued separate statements paying tribute to security forces. President Zardari praised security forces for their bravery during the operation and expressed "national determination to continue operations until the complete end of terrorism." Moreover, PM Sharif said that the nefarious intentions of the ene mies of humanity will continue to be crushed in the same way. "The government is actively working for the complete elimination of Kharijites and terrorism from the country," a statement by PM House added. On Sunday, at least eight "terrorists" and two soldiers were killed in two separate engagements with security forces in Bannu district of KPK. The security operations come at a time when Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan.
