SCH President: Family medicine essential for new health system success

Supreme Council for Health (SCH) President, Lieutenant-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, received here today the President of Bahrain Medical Society (BMS), Dr. Amer Al-Derazi, and members of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Family Physicians Association (BFPA), led by Dr. Faisal Abdullatif Al-Nasser, and including Dr. Amal Dawood, Dr. Bashayer Habib and Dr. Hana Al-Fayez.

The meeting focused on the Bahrain Family Physicians Association’s future programmes and activities.

The SCH President lauded BFPA’s role in promoting the health of community members and protecting them from diseases, as well as in educating patients and society about healthy lifestyles.

He commended the major role played by health associations in serving the Bahraini society, especially patients, through their partnership with governmental and non-governmental entities, which contributes to developing the health services, which are improving steadily under the comprehensive development process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The SCH President congratulated the delegation on the activation of the role of the Bahrain Family Physicians Association, affirming his constant support for its activities.

He also briefed them on the health system that will be applied in the kingdom during the coming period, stressing the importance of family medicine in ensuring the success of the new system.

Members of the Association presented the SCH President with a copy of the Kuwait Charter of the Gulf Association of Family Medicine (GAFM), issued by GAFM in May 2023.

BMS President and BFPA’s president and members appreciated the SCH President’s constant follow-up and directives, expressing pride in his keenness to consolidate the partnership with various sectors to ensure high-quality health coverage.
