Saudi Arabia Highlights Strategic Importance of Strait of Hormuz at UN


New york: Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, emphasised the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for international trade and global energy security, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.



According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Alwasil spoke during a joint press conference held by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the United States on a draft resolution concerning freedom of navigation. He stated that any threat to navigation in the strait directly impacts global markets and international supply chains.



Dr. Alwasil warned of serious humanitarian and economic consequences that could result from disruptions to the flow of essential goods, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid. He highlighted the necessity of protecting maritime security and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of international trade in accordance with international law.



Additionally, Dr. Alwasil called for coordinated international efforts to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation, aiming to preserve regional and international peace and security.
