Kuwait City: Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Monday a four-day ceasefire in Ukraine starting on May 8 on the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Putin took this decision for humanitarian considerations, as quoted by Russia's news agency RIA Novosti. The Kremlin expressed hope that Kiev would take a similar step in response to the ceasefire initiative.
The Kremlin further warned that Russia's forces will appropriately and effectively respond to any Ukrainian violation of the ceasefire. The statement also reiterated Russia's readiness for peace talks without previous conditions to address the roots of the Ukrainian crisis and enhance collaboration with international partners.
