Pyongyang: Russia's Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev announced that Moscow will fulfill its commitments to North Korea under their strategic partnership agreement. He made these remarks during talks in Pyongyang with North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un, focusing on the expansion of bilateral cooperation. Medvedev highlighted Russian President Vladimir Putin's strong interest in nurturing ties with Pyongyang, as stated in a Kremlin press release.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Russia appreciates Kim Jong-un's initiatives to enhance relations between the two nations and acknowledged North Korea's support for Russia's "special military operation," a term referring to the involvement of North Korean soldiers in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. During the meeting, Kim Jong-un presented Medvedev with a historic letter from North Korea's founder, Kim Il-sung, to the late Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, symbolizing the longstanding historical connections between the two countries.
Medvedev's visit to Pyongyang was part of a United Russia party delegation invited by the Workers' Party of Korea's (WPK) Central Committee. The visit coincided with the celebrations of the WPK's 80th anniversary on October 10. The WPK was officially established on October 10, 1945, following the formation of the North Korean Branch Bureau (NKBB) of the Communist Party of Korea (CPK).
