Russia and Kyrgyzstan Strengthen Strategic Ties Through Enhanced Cooperation

Bishkek: Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the successful development of Russia-Kyrgyzstan relations under the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation during discussions in Bishkek. He noted the ongoing contact with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to maintain close communication. Putin emphasized that Russia is one of Kyrgyzstan's key partners in foreign trade, with bilateral trade reaching record levels last year. Notably, about 97 percent of their mutual payments are now conducted in national currencies.

According to Kuwait News Agency, President Putin invited President Japarov to participate in the informal CIS leaders' meeting scheduled for December in St. Petersburg. Moscow views Kyrgyzstan as a stable and reliable partner, and Putin expressed a desire to deepen cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy, along with continued collaboration within international organizations.

On the security front, Putin underscored the importance of the joint Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan as a crucial element for regional stability. He also mentioned regional cooperation involving more than 80 Russian entities across all seven Kyrgyz regions. Additionally, he recalled the launch of a joint initiative to construct nine Russian-language schools in Kyrgyzstan, with three expected to open by September 2027.

President Sadyr Japarov reiterated that Russia remains a strategic ally, reliable partner, and good friend to Kyrgyzstan, highlighting Russia's role as one of Kyrgyzstan's leading trade partners. Earlier, Putin arrived at the Yntymak Ordo Presidential Administration building in Bishkek, where he was welcomed by President Japarov, marking the start of a three-day state visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties.
