Russia and Iraq Urge Containment of Middle East Escalation to Protect Energy Markets

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani on Monday expressed concerns over emerging risks to global energy markets due to the ongoing escalation in the Middle East. During a phone call, the leaders highlighted the serious repercussions that continued escalation could impose on regional stability and the global economy.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Putin and Al-Sudani warned of the potential for a broader confrontation and noted the increasing complexity of the security and political landscape in the region. The two leaders emphasized the importance of continued coordination within the OPEC+ framework to ensure stability in oil markets. They also pointed out that global energy security is intricately tied to political changes in the Middle East, necessitating a collective effort to maintain market balance.
