Brussels: Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has accused the Israeli occupation of committing war crimes against journalists in the Gaza Strip and has called for the suspension of the trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Israel. This call comes as RSF joins over 180 international organizations urging action against the alleged violations.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the RSF and 186 other organizations have issued a statement ahead of the upcoming EU Foreign Affairs Council Meeting scheduled for July 15th. They claim that the Israeli occupation has breached Article 2 of the trade partnership agreement, which emphasizes the importance of human rights within the bilateral relationship.
RSF's mandate to protect journalists worldwide includes highlighting the deaths of over 200 journalists, reportedly killed by the Israeli occupation's army in Gaza since October 2023. Of these, 46 journalists were specifically targeted due to their professional activities.
The organization has also taken legal action by filing four complaints with the International Criminal Court (ICC) concerning the actions of the Israeli occupation against journalists in Palestinian territories. RSF is advocating for Palestinian journalists to be acknowledged as victims to enable their participation in the ICC's ongoing proceedings.
