Kuwait City: The Sixth Arab Regional Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) commenced on Monday, featuring discussions aimed at enhancing resilience across Arab communities. The forum, which runs from February 9 to 12, is chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah. It operates under the theme "Building Resilient Arab Communities: From Understanding to Action." Representatives from about 22 Arab countries are participating, with plans to adopt a comprehensive disaster risk reduction strategy named after Kuwait, set to be implemented across the region over the next three years.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Government of Kuwait, in collaboration with the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Regional Office for Arab States and the Arab League, organizes this forum with the objective of fostering regional cooperation. The discussions will focus on the ongoing evaluation and progress of Arab countries in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction 2030.
Furthermore, the forum will identify priorities for the upcoming two years and adopt the "Kuwait Declaration" alongside an action plan for the 2025-2027 period. This event is attended by nearly 800 participants, including decision-makers, experts, international and national representatives, as well as Arab ministers and heads of diplomatic missions in Kuwait.
