Rebel Group Attacks Catholic Church in DRC, Leaving Over 40 Dead

Komanda: More than 40 people were killed and 15 others injured when a rebel group attacked a Catholic church in Komanda, Ituri Province, to the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Sunday. A number of people went missing after the attack, according to local media in the DRC.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the gunmen belong to a Ugandan rebel group called Allied Democratic Force (ADF) who are allied with the so-called Islamic State. They attacked the church with firearms and armes blanches during a Mass, started massacring the people inside, and then set several nearby houses and shops afire, local officials said.

In February, the armed group claimed responsibility for a similar attack that claimed 23 lives.
